A tank crew from the IDF Tank Corps' 401 Brigade fired a Halulan shell (a training shell, considered less dangerous) and hit another tank in the Golan Heights during a Thursday training exercise. No one was hurt in the incident, but damage was done to the tank, which is a Merkava ("chariot" in Hebrew) IV model.

  • The crew apparently performed a quick fire maneuver, without having identified its targets in advance. The IDF is investigating the incident, and the drill in question has been halted by the division commander.
The IDF Spokesperson issued a statement on the incident, saying, "During a Tank Corps drill in the Golan Heights, a drill shell that was fired from one of the tanks hit another tank. There are no injuries, damage was done to the tank. The drill was halted by order of the division commander pending the completion of an initial inquiry."
