Abdullah Aliyev, an 18-year-old from Azerbaijan, is accused of planning an attack on a synagogue in the capital Baku. According to the indictment, Aliyev was motivated by extreme ideological-religious beliefs inspired by ISIS and had planned a series of additional attacks. A witness present at the hearing said that Aliyev spoke in praise of the organization and claimed to have connections with one of its operatives, requesting help in obtaining improvised weapons including a knife, an axe and Molotov cocktails. The witness quoted Aliyev as saying, "I intend to carry out the attack at any cost. I want to die as a martyr and you will continue what I started."
