Finance Ministry Director-General Ilan Rom asked Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich to step down from his position following the approval of the state budget in the Knesset overnight. Rom was appointed to the role exactly one year ago and is resigning after a brief tenure. The Finance Ministry said he was appointed to help strengthen Israel's economic resilience during wartime, and that in his role as director-general, "Rom led the passage of the state budgets for 2025 and 2026, headed negotiations with the defense establishment on budget matters, was involved in a series of senior appointments" and more.
