Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara rejected claims that her recommendation to review holding the memorial event for Rabbi Ovadia Yosef close to the election date was a general directive, and emphasized that it only concerns an event with government funding. In her letter to the Director General of the Ministry of Religious Services Yehuda Avidan, Baharav-Miara said that any claim that this harms the honor of Rabbi Yosef is baseless. She clarified that the Ministry of Religious Services itself requested not to hold the event on the memorial day itself, and therefore in any case "both purposes will be preserved - both commemorating the rabbi and maintaining election fairness."
