Itzik Saidian on wave of suicides in IDF: 'Mental injury is more difficult'

Alexandra Lukash|
Itzik Saidian, who set himself on fire in protest of the treatment of combat-shocked veterans about four years ago and was rehabilitated, spoke about the support needed against the backdrop of the wave of suicides in the IDF and the increase in the number of those suffering from PTSD. In an interview with the ynet studio, he said: "People don't leave home and ask me what can be done and if I can help. There's no magic word." He was asked if support could save lives, and replied: "Without a doubt yes, the soul is something that largely needs empathy, understanding and acceptance. It's different from a physical injury. The mental injury, when it comes alone, is more difficult. There is a problem in mediating the soul."
