Pro-Israeli Serbian Prime Minister Loses Parliamentary Election

|
Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić conceded that he appears to have lost the parliamentary election. The right-wing, pro-Israel prime minister, who heads the Serbian Progressive Party, told local media that "according to the polls, there is no doubt that we lost. The 'Students' List' won and they will have at least 135 seats." The Serbian parliament has 250 seats and the required majority is 126. The election was held against the backdrop of student protests that erupted after the disaster of a concrete roof collapse at a train station in the north of the country, in which 16 people were killed in 2024. There is no clear leader at the head of the 'Students' List,' so it is unclear who will replace Vučić.
