The Central District Court sentenced Ziad Ghazawi, a 31-year-old illegal resident from Ramallah, to 17 years in prison for killing Lyubov Melnik in a car accident. In July 2024, Ghazawi received 3,500 shekels to assist in stealing a Toyota vehicle in Rehovot. Near Beit Dagan, he ignored police officers who ordered him to stop and accelerated. When he reached Shappirim Junction, he ran a red light and struck a Subaru in which Melnik and her daughter Katrina were traveling. The defendant was also ordered to compensate the deceased's family 270,000 shekels.
