Jewish-American chess grandmaster Daniel (Danya) Naroditsky has died unexpectedly at the age of 29, his family announced in a statement published by the Charlotte Chess Club, where he was a member. "With great sadness we share the unexpected passing of Daniel," the family stated. "He was a talented chess player, commentator and educator, and a beloved member of the chess community." The cause of death was not disclosed. Naroditsky, who achieved grandmaster status in 2013, was one of the most recognizable figures in US chess and had previously won the World Youth Chess Championship.
