The Israel Police's National Fraud Investigations Unit is examining materials it received concerning a Likud government minister that have raised suspicions of alleged criminal activity, Army Radio reported Tuesday.

It is unclear what the materials relating to Communications Minister Ayoob Kara contain, but the veteran lawmaker said in response that he was "confident in my righteous and honest path."
"I invite any official body to come and see there is nothing, because there was nothing, and there will be nothing. Simply nothing," he said, echoing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's regular response to the investigations against him.
"It's a shame (others) keep dealing with trifles instead of my many achievements as the communications minister in the Israeli government," Kara said.
If the examination does bring up suspicions of criminal activity, the head of the police's Department of Investigations and Intelligence is expected to seek the approval of Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit to launch an official investigation against Kara.
