Defense Minister Israel Katz responded to Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa's speech at the UN and said that "the Golan Heights under Israeli sovereignty is an inseparable part of the state. We will not allow Syria to become a threat – and we will act as necessary to prevent that. Mount Hermon and the buffer zone were handed over to Syria in the 1974 disengagement agreement under clear conditions that were violated, when Syria became an Iranian base and a threat to the State of Israel and its borders. The IDF will remain on Mount Hermon and in the buffer zone as long as there is a jihadist threat on the border and to Israeli communities."
