U.S. President Donald Trump approved a plan to fire Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary, according to reports by The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. The move comes amid internal conflicts and heavy pressure from tobacco companies that donated to Trump's campaign, anti-abortion organizations and Health Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr., regarding the FDA's opposition to approving flavored e-cigarettes, oversight of abortion pills and rejection of biotechnology company drugs. In a conversation with reporters, Trump dismissed the reports: "I read about it, but I don't know anything about it."
