Paraguayan Ambassador to Israel Alejandro Rubin clarified that the decision of his country's Parliament Speaker Raul Latorre to attend Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's trial this week was made solely on his personal behalf. The ambassador made these remarks in response to a strongly-worded letter from MK Gilad Kariv (Democrats) demanding clarification and an apology following the Parliament Speaker's involvement "in Israel's internal affairs." "We respect Israeli sovereignty and Israel's democratic institutions," the ambassador wrote. "Paraguay does not intervene or express opinions on issues related to internal legal or political discussions. Latorre's presence and statements there were made solely in a personal capacity."
