Report: Israel, Greece and Cyprus plan to establish 'rapid response force' with 2,500 troops

|
Israel, Greece and Cyprus are considering establishing a joint military force to operate in the eastern Mediterranean, including naval, air and land forces. According to the report, published on the Greek news site TA NEA, the force's establishment has already been discussed by "senior-ranking officers." The force, it is claimed, will provide Israel with additional "strategic depth" against Turkish attempts to establish a presence in the region. According to the plan, a "rapid response military force" will be established, including about 2,500 troops. The military force will have ships, fighter jets and additional infrastructure deployed on the Greek islands of Karpathos and Rhodes, as well as in Greece, Cyprus and Israel. According to the plan, Athens and Jerusalem will send 1,000 soldiers each, and Nicosia will send 500 soldiers. In addition, the Israeli and Greek air forces will each allocate one squadron to the force.
