The Hadera Magistrate's Court ordered the release to house arrest of Mahmoud Samhat, 21, from the village of Manda, who is suspected of fatally running over 17-year-old Amichai Atia at the Village shopping mall in the city last week. House arrest was set until October 1. The judge said during the hearing that "according to the suspect's claim, he was fleeing from the mob that chased after him and wanted to lynch him, did not notice he ran over a person and therefore cannot be attributed with recklessness. It is clear from the investigation materials that he did not run over anyone intentionally, at most it is a matter of negligence, and even that is not at a high level. In fact, it is quite clear that those guilty of the tragic outcome are those people who chased after him and not him, even if he has a part in the matter, something that will be clarified later."
