Netanyahu: 'A permanent Shin Bet chief must be appointed soon. General Zini will not handle Qatar-gate investigations'

|
The Prime Minister's Office announced that 'in the midst of war, it is not appropriate to settle for an acting Shin Bet chief. A permanent Shin Bet director must be appointed soon. This is a top security priority, and any delay harms state security and our soldiers' safety.' According to the announcement, 'Ronen Bar will complete his role on June 15, and a proper handover must be completed by then. In accordance with the law, General Zini's appointment process as Shin Bet chief will be conducted in two stages: bringing the appointment for approval to the Grunis Committee for senior positions, which examines integrity; after committee approval, bringing the appointment for government approval. To prevent any speculation regarding the Qatar investigations, the Prime Minister clarifies that the designated Shin Bet chief will not be involved in these investigations at all.'
