The Lod District Court sentenced Shai Salmi to life imprisonment after he was convicted of murdering his wife Yafit Purian on Rosh Hashanah in 2022. Salmi was convicted of stabbing his wife to death in her bed at their home in Rehovot, then slitting her throat and attempting to take his own life by setting fire to the bed where she lay. He was also convicted of causing injury to his young daughter, who was sleeping upstairs and was hospitalized after inhaling smoke. The court also sentenced Salmi to two years in prison for arson and ordered him to pay 258,000 shekels in compensation to his children.
