President Herzog eulogizes kidnapped fallen soldier Yonatan Samarno: 'Sorry we couldn't save you in time'

|
President Isaac Herzog eulogized kidnapped fallen soldier Yonatan Samarno, who was laid to rest at Nahalat Yitzhak Cemetery. "Dear Yonatan, all your loved ones say you were a magical child, surrounded by friends, full of life - loved and loving, who just wanted to make music, grow up and be happy. You returned to us on your birthday, in a cycle that began with light shining on the world on the day of your birth and was completed, tragically, on that very same date, with your body returning to this earth for eternal rest," he said. "As President of the State of Israel, on behalf of the State of Israel, I ask Yonatan, and with him also the beloved Ofra and Shai - forgiveness. Forgiveness that the state did not protect you. Forgiveness that we did not manage to save you from the murderers. Forgiveness that it took so long to bring you back from the hands of these human monsters."
