Report: Hundreds of Google employees demand company stop providing AI models to US military

|
More than 600 Google employees signed a petition demanding the company stop providing artificial intelligence (AI) models to the U.S. military for classified operations, the French news agency AFP reported, citing a statement it obtained. The French news agency noted that several senior officials are among the signatories of the petition. "There is no way to ensure that our tools will not cause serious harm or violate individual freedoms," it stated. In 2018, Project Maven led to a revolt within the company, in which Google assisted the Pentagon in identifying objects in drone footage operating beyond U.S. borders. More than 4,600 employees then signed a demand to terminate the contract with the administration.
