Municipal elections for the head of the Deir al-Balah municipality in Gaza are taking place today for the first time in two decades, in what is expected to be a pilot whose results will affect the rest of the Strip. The polling stations in Gaza opened today simultaneously with polling stations in the West Bank, where elections are being held for the first time since October 7, 2023, and those overseeing them are Hamas members – who also 'appointed' the candidates.
