Colombia has officially recognized Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights. Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar welcomed the decision, saying he thanks incoming President Abelardo de la Espriella. Sa'ar added: "Israel is a small country without strategic depth. Defensible borders are essential for it to ensure the survival of the Jewish people in their historical homeland. I will continue to work so that more countries join the United States (under President Trump) and Colombia (under President de la Espriella) in recognizing Israel's sovereignty over the Golan, to which Israeli law was applied 45 years ago."
