State Comptroller: Sensitive information was accessible to all Public Defender's Office employees

|
A new report published today by State Comptroller Matanyahu Englman reveals a series of deficiencies - including information security, oversight and unequal fee collection - in the operations of the Public Defender's Office. The body is responsible for representing defendants, detainees and suspects who cannot afford private legal representation, and is supposed to play a central role in ensuring the right to a fair trial. According to the report, all 392 Public Defender's Office employees who had active permissions to the 'Defender' information security system had access to all information, without appropriate segmentation by role or district.
