U.S. President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social in a message to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer that "if Iran decides not to make a deal, we may need to use Diego Garcia (Bomber Island) and the Fairford Air Base to destroy a possible Iranian attack from the unstable and dangerous regime – an attack that could also occur against Britain and other friendly nations." Diego Garcia is the largest of the 60 islands that make up the Chagos Archipelago in the central Indian Ocean. An American air base has been operating on the island since the 1970s, which the U.S. leases from Britain, and Trump opposes Starmer's intention to transfer control of it back to the island nation of Mauritius.
