Human rights organizations in Venezuela reported that a large number of political prisoners were released from prisons. They did not specify an exact number, but the release of the prisoners occurred after a meeting between Acting President Delcy Rodriguez and U.S. President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. In her speech to the Assembly, Rodriguez stated that her country "has begun a process of democratic change." According to one of the organizations, among those released from a prison near Caracas was Wuaider Vasquez, a student sentenced to five years in prison for participating in a plot to assassinate former President Nicolas Maduro in 2018.
