IDF: 'Chief of Staff decides on appointments - minister can approve or not'

|
Despite claims by Defense Minister Israel Katz that the discussion is illegal and therefore he will not approve the appointments, an IDF spokesperson claimed that "the discussion was scheduled in advance and according to the rules." It was further stated that "this is a staffing discussion centered on field positions for which brigade commanders who have led since the outbreak of the war are competing. The Chief of Staff is the sole authority in orders for appointing commanders of colonel rank and above in the IDF. The Chief of Staff decides on the appointments - after which the appointment goes to the minister for approval, who has the ability to approve or not approve the appointment."
