Mount Semeru, located on the Indonesian island of Java, erupted, leading to the evacuation of area villages. The eruption continued throughout the day, causing the release of volcanic ash including smoke, rocks, lava and gas that reached up to seven kilometers from the island's peak and also covered villages. No casualties were reported as a result of the eruption. More than 300 people were evacuated from three villages at highest risk in Lumajang district and transferred to shelters organized by the government.
