Supreme Court president opposes law that would strip his authority to assign panels

Supreme Court President Yitzhak Amit opposes the proposed Supreme Court Panel Composition Law, which will be presented today to the Ministerial Committee for Legislation and is expected to receive approval, ynet has learned. According to the bill proposed by Constitution Committee Chairman Simcha Rothman, judicial panels in the Supreme Court will be determined by computer, including in 'sensitive' cases where until now the Supreme Court President made these assignments. The proposal, revealed by ynet, shows Rothman arguing that the current practice allows Supreme Court presidents to influence the outcome of deliberations and court rulings.
