The Water Authority plans to pump desalinated seawater into the Sea of Galilee in the coming weeks. This will be the first time in the world that desalinated seawater is transferred to a freshwater lake. The water level in the national reservoir stood yesterday at just 22 cm above the lower red line. Idan Greenbaum, chairman of the Kinneret Cities Association, said that "the water level continues to lose about 1 cm daily during these dry summer days due to natural evaporation. We are monitoring the dropping level with concern and preparing for the reverse flow of water. We hope that with the desalinated water we can ensure a higher Sea of Galilee for the Israeli public."
