The earthquake on the Kamchatka Peninsula in eastern Russia has been updated to a magnitude of 8.8 from 8, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported. The governor of the region noted that the earthquake in the area is "the strongest in decades" and urged people to stay away from the coastline.
