Defense Minister Israel Katz has appointed Colonel (res.) Avihai Tanami, a former commander and fighter in the General Staff Reconnaissance Unit, as his special project manager to handle hilltop youth in Judea and Samaria. This follows Katz's decision upon taking office to cease the use of administrative detention orders against settlers in Judea and Samaria. The decision to appoint a special project manager from the Defense Ministry was first revealed by ynet, and was made following discussions the minister held with the National Security Council, the Attorney General's Office, Shin Bet, and other government ministries involved in the hilltop youth issue.
