Shai Lee Atari responded to the closure of the case against Yuval Wilner, stating on behalf of the Association of Rape Crisis Centers in Israel: "It was not determined that I was not raped by him, nor that he was proven innocent. Rather, after all these years, in their opinion, there is not enough evidence to bring him to trial. Years have passed, evidence has been damaged, mistakes were made, and in the end, it is the victim who pays for them. Lack of evidence is not proof that no crime occurred. The hole in my memory is not proof of consent. On the contrary: the thing that was taken from me that night – the ability to remember – has now also become the thing that denies me justice. If this is the system, Israel doesn't just 'struggle' to prosecute rapists, it teaches them exactly where the loopholes are that allow them to escape."
