EU foreign minister compared West Bank to Crimea, Sa'ar: 'Unacceptable'

|
Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar criticized European Union foreign minister Kaja Kallas after she compared Israeli settlements in Judea and Samaria to the Crimean Peninsula, seized by Russia in 2014, in an interview with The Irish Times and expressed support for a trade ban. "The comparison made by Kaja Kallas lacks any factual or legal basis and is completely unacceptable," Sa'ar wrote. "Judea and Samaria have never belonged to a Palestinian state, which has never existed." Kallas told The Irish Times that the European Union should treat illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank similarly to how it treats Crimea following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. According to her, a trade ban with "the occupied territories" would be a principled step by the union.
