The Treasury Ministry was unaware that U.S. President Donald Trump was expected to announce a freeze on aid. The assessment in Israel is that Trump was referring to the end of the MOU – the security memorandum of understanding valid until the end of 2028, under which Israel receives $3.8 billion annually. The Treasury Ministry declined to officially comment on the decision, but senior economic officials told Ynet that this is a severe decision for the Israeli economy: 'Giving up two years of aid is essentially $8 billion. Where will we get that from? Clearly – from citizens' taxes.'
