Avi Salama won the elections for mayor of Netanya, which held elections about two months after the death of the legendary mayor, Miriam Feirberg-Ikar. Salama defeated his rivals Tali Molner, Amos Machluf and Yossi Biton. Earlier, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived in the city, met with Salama and expressed support for his candidacy.
