Likud advances cancellation of committee that should discuss Shin Bet chief appointment

The Likud party intends to bring forward on Sunday in the Ministerial Committee for Legislation the bill to abolish the Advisory Committee for Senior Appointments, and then advance the proposal in the Knesset. According to the proposal, appointments that the committee examines will be made by the government without requiring committee approval - which is responsible for, among other things, approving the appointment of the Shin Bet chief and other senior positions. Currently, retired Justice Asher Grunis chairs the committee.
