Israel's Supreme Court ruled that the Chief Rabbinate must allow women to take rabbinical qualification exams under the same conditions as men. Now, women will for the first time be able to take the exams on the same dates, with the same questionnaires, on the same study material and by the exact same examiners as men. The court also determined that certificates given to women who pass the exams will be considered equivalent to an academic degree - providing salary points, access to government tenders and employment benefits. The ruling stated: "Blocking women is prohibited discrimination, which lacks sufficient justification."
