The Environmental Protection Ministry and Health Ministry reported the capture of mosquitoes infected with West Nile virus at several locations across the country: the Jezreel Valley Regional Council in the north, the Hefer Valley Regional Council in the center and the Sha'ar HaNegev Regional Council in the south. According to the Health Ministry, 17 people have been diagnosed with the fever, including one person who died from the disease. It was also reported that "the public is asked to help with the effort according to the guidelines: drain and dry sources of standing water; use mosquito repellent; report mosquito hazards and sources of standing water in public areas to the local authority's 106 hotline."
