The Knesset plenum approved in a first reading the amendment to the Traffic Ordinance that will enable Uber to operate in Israel. Seventeen Knesset members supported the proposal, with one opposing, and it will be returned for discussion in the Economics Committee. The explanatory notes to the proposal state: "The bill is intended to expand the range of transportation and ride options available to the public, reduce travel costs for passengers from origin to destination of their choice, increase competition in the ride-hailing sector and regulate a convenient and flexible range of employment options for driver's license holders who meet the conditions to be detailed."
