Police addressed the cancellation of the Tel Aviv derby following disorder and fan riots, announcing that "before the start of the match, rioters began throwing smoke grenades and fireworks onto the field." In total, it was stated, "48 smoke grenades and 52 pyrotechnic devices were thrown." Police arrested nine suspects and 16 were detained for disturbing the peace. Three police officers were injured, as well as 12 civilians. Tel Aviv District Commander Haim Sargrof described the event as a "festival of violence," saying that "from the early afternoon hours we have been experiencing vandalism and severe violence, pre-arranged fights."
