Following several Supreme Court decisions against the Chief Rabbinate, a meeting was held with the participation of Israel's Chief Rabbis, Rabbi David Yosef and Rabbi Kalman Bar. In a decision published after the meeting, the rabbis and the Chief Rabbinate Council strongly criticized the Supreme Court justices: "We view with severity the Supreme Court's intervention in matters beyond its authority." The decision also stated that "all matters of examinations and certification are solely under the authority of the Chief Rabbinate, according to the tradition of rabbinic ordination and rulings throughout generations, which were entrusted only to the sages of Israel."
