The search committee for selecting the Judicial Ombudsman is convening at the Ministry of Justice in Tel Aviv for the first time since the new law was passed, and is expected to interview candidates for the position today. According to the law, the ombudsman will be chosen by a committee headed by the Justice Minister, instead of a joint decision with the Supreme Court President. According to assessments, the leading candidate is former Deputy President of the Nazareth District Court, Asher Kula. Committee members include Minister Yariv Levin, Minister Idit Silman, MK Ofir Katz (Likud), retired Supreme Court Justice Elyakim Rubinstein, retired Labor Court President Varda Wirth-Livne, Chief Rabbinate representative Rabbi Yitzhak Zar, and Chief Public Defender Anat Meysad-Canaan.
