The Likud party announced that it has safeguarded the 11th spot on its list for the 26th Knesset for Elisha Medan, a reservist soldier and one of the founders of the Avigayil settlement in the Hebron Hills who lit a torch on Israel's 77th Independence Day. Medan was critically wounded and lost both his legs during operations in northern Gaza Strip. Four soldiers fell in the same incident. The party's statement said: "The long rehabilitation process Elisha underwent has become a symbol of strength, determination and faith in the power of life. From the severe injury and the heavy price his body paid, Elisha chose to look forward, to continue acting, to strengthen and to give hope to many Israelis."
