26 leaders in the European Union issued a joint declaration in support of Ukraine, saying that "the Ukrainian people must have the freedom to determine their future." According to them, "a just and lasting peace, bringing stability and security, must respect international law. Meaningful negotiations can only take place in the context of a ceasefire and reduction of hostilities. A diplomatic solution must protect Ukraine's and Europe's essential security interests." The leaders noted they will continue to "support Ukraine's path to European Union membership" and that they "welcome the efforts of U.S. President Donald Trump to end the war."
