The White House is considering a plan to purchase the Chagos Islands from Mauritius, which would thwart British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's plan to reclaim sovereignty over the islands. This was reported by The Telegraph. Last year, following lengthy negotiations, Britain and Mauritius reached an agreement under which sovereignty over the islands would be transferred to Mauritius, while Britain would maintain control over the famous Diego Garcia base known as 'Bomber Island.' The island holds significant strategic importance for the U.S. and British militaries, as it serves as a launch point for strikes on Iran.
