Chilean copper company Codelco announced that its rescue team has made slight progress in attempts to reach five miners who were trapped yesterday in the El Teniente mine, which collapsed following a 4.2 magnitude earthquake. The company's CEO stated that contact has not yet been established with the trapped miners, noting that the rescue team advanced four meters out of a total of 20. One person died in the mine collapse. El Teniente, considered the world's largest underground copper mine, is located in the Andes mountains in central Chile and is operated by the state-owned Codelco company.
