Oscar-winning director and producer Jeremy Thomas ('The Last Emperor') dies at 77

British producer Jeremy Thomas, one of the most respected and influential figures in independent cinema, died last night at the age of 77. Thomas, who was credited on more than 80 films over a career spanning more than five decades, died at his home in Oxfordshire surrounded by his family, according to a statement from his team. Among the films he worked on are "EO," which won the 2022 Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival; "The Last Emperor," which won nine Oscars, including Best Picture, and four Golden Globes; and "Pinocchio" from 2019.
