Ephie Defrin, delivered a statement to the media from the Gaza envelope, saying that 'the purpose of Operation Gideon's Chariots is to return our hostages and dismantle Hamas.' According to him, these objectives are interlinked, however, Defrin repeated five times that the supreme goal is the return of the hostages. 'For this, we need everyone's mobilization,' he added. Regarding IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir's comments about the hostages, Defrin said he 'does not want to address what was said in closed meetings between the Prime Minister and the Chief of Staff - I will repeat that the primary objective of the operation is the return of the hostages.'
