Israeli accused of ship hijacking arrested in Cyprus - to be extradited to Russia

|
Alexei Kartzgor, a 47-year-old Israeli citizen, was arrested earlier in Cyprus following an international arrest warrant issued against him. Kartzgor was arrested in connection with an old case involving the hijacking of a cargo ship in the Baltic Sea. Kartzgor arrived in Cyprus on a vessel belonging to "Mano Shipping" and was unaware of an international arrest warrant issued by Russia through Interpol. The Russians accuse Kartzgor of involvement in planning and executing the hijacking of the Arctic Sea vessel. Kartzgor was previously arrested in this case in 2009 and released on bail, but later fled and was declared wanted by Interpol. The arrest is expected to lead to a swift extradition process.
