Soldiers' mothers to Attorney General: We'll petition High Court if funding for Hasidic travel to Uman isn't frozen

|
The 'Awake Mother' movement, which represents mothers of combat soldiers, has appealed to Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara demanding immediate cancellation of the government's decision to allocate 10 million shekels for funding trips to Uman - otherwise they will file a petition to the High Court. They claim this represents "an abuse of budgetary authority based on foreign and discriminatory considerations." Dr. Rotem Sivan-Hoffman and Michal Hadas-Rubin, leaders of the 'Awake Mother' movement, stated that "this government is completely disconnected and forgets the broader Israeli public that it is supposed to serve. The decision to funnel money to those who evade service is contrary to all logic. We demand that the Attorney General freeze this decision immediately, and if this is not done - we will appeal to the High Court."
