President Isaac Herzog eulogized Col. Assaf Hamami who was laid to rest at Kiryat Shaul Cemetery in Tel Aviv. Herzog said that "after two years from the morning when you declared on the radio 'commander here declares war' with clarity and without fear - you have returned to us." He added: "You fell a hero's death in the battle of forces of light against darkness. You symbolize a generation of heroic commanders who lead from the front and do everything to protect the State of Israel and its citizens." Former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and former IDF Chief of Staff Hertzi Halevi also attended Hamami's funeral.
