The Health Ministry reported Wednesday evening that 6,949 new cases of coronavirus have been detected in the previous 24 hours, 4,031 of them since midnight.
According to ministry data, the number of serious coronavirus patients receiving respiratory assistance from ventilators has reached a record-high 177. There are currently 658 Israeli COVID-19 patients in serious condition receiving treatment across the country's hospitals.
Health authorities reported that 14.5% of all coronavirus tests conducted on Tuesday returned positive, meaning 1 of every 7 tests yielded a positive result.
Since the onset of the pandemic in Israel, 203,136 Israelis have contracted the virus and 1,317 have passed away due to its complications.
There are currently 12 Israeli cities with over 1,000 active coronavirus cases led by Jerusalem with 6,146 active virus carriers. The capital is then followed by Bnei Brak with 3,134 cases, Ashdod with 2,189, Tel Aviv-Jaffa with 1,670, Petah Tikva with 1,483, Netanya with 1,466, Be'er Sheva with 1,350, Modi'in-Illit with 1,281, Holon with 1,270, Haifa with 1,239, Rishon Lezion with 1,155 and Ashkelon with 1,013 active cases.
According to ministry data, 247 of every 10,000 residents in the northern town of Peki'in is an active carrier of the virus, 226 in Julis, 212 in Muqeible, 205 in Fureidis, 203 in Bi'ina, 199 in Rekhasim, and 190 in Elad.
